American Legion Short Stories
My name is Joe Porter. I am a Lawrenceburg, Indiana resident and a full time documentary video guy. I would love to invest in this community and hear your stories. I would be honored in fact.
You can share a story from your time in service or just a piece of wisdom you want to share with your friends and family. We won’t be capturing your life story. Here’s how it will work:
Signup for a 20 minute time slot here. We will film at the American Legion before the bi-weekly meetings, from 5:30-7pm. Be prepared for cameras, lights and a microphone.
Show up for your time with the individual story in mind or piece of wisdom you have learned. But it doesn’t have to be memorized. I will interview you while recording video and ask you questions. No need to nail it. I will edit our conversation to make it seamless later.
I will edit our short conversation to remove my questions or anything that doesn’t work. The final video will be about 5 minutes. We will send you a private link to watch the video. You can choose to keep the video to yourself, share it with your people, or even publicly. It would also be our honor to share your story with our audience, but only with your expressed permission.

What if I say something on video that I don’t want to be in there?
Just let me know and we will remove it.
Why are you doing this?
Because I care about my community and the people who have served our country. I believe their stories matter.
What should I wear?
Just be yourself. If that’s dressed up or a tank top, that’s up to you!
